This is the pool where Kristin swims. Today she got there at 7:10 am and swam for 60 minutes. Can't you see her swimming down that middle lane? The water is always warm, about 82 degrees, but the air is often cold. |

This is Kristin at the Wall of Sound. She's wearing a snow suit because it's in the middle of a California winter. Don't they heat their houses out there? Don't ask me why she's wearing only one sock.

This is Kristin near the top of Tivy Mountain. It was the last day of the year in 1999. Tivy Mountain is a dormant volcano. The top is a pile of volcanic rock. Coming down from the top, I saw a bear on the trail in front of me. The bear was standing up watching me. The bear had spotted me before I saw it. As soon as I got into eye contact with the bear, it took off. I had the camera around my neck but missed the opportunity for a picture. I had never seen a bear in the wild before. |

This is Kristin on BLM land in Santa Margarita, San Luis Obispo County. That object flying around behind her is a large bug. Insect life was at a height that summer. We scratched and itched, got bitten and chewed day and night. |
